I back ordered a "major" single keyword country level domain...and after about two weeks I was notified I had got the domain. Cool...
I did a little research and found it had some Overture ranking as a Url, nice bonus.
OVT. said 30 hits for the previous month again as a Url....I know Ovt. only reports Yahoo and Yahoo associated search engines so that can be factored in on what to expect for actual hits overall.
I have had the name now for near a month and looking at my stats it has produced over 100 direct type ins. And still near a week left for this months reporting.
As far as I can tell it was never a website, simply a domain, and folks type it into the address bar looking for Lyrics.
Thing is this traffic doesn't pay well and seems to have unacceptable or degraded value for clicks on ads that it produces. That is a factor to consider for others looking into country level domains, even if you find one getting natural type ins. Does the traffic it may naturally have be of any value? Even if it is redirected that dogma will follow...something to consider when looking at a high cost to register country level domain. |

Different traffic produces different click rates payable.
No different to the real world. There's a whole heap of difference between a potential buyer of a multi million dollar car and the person wanting a banged up $500 a to b vehicle.
Entertainment/leisure type sits are just that. People looking to surf rather than buy. Still though, the traffic can be funnelled to other sites. hence, arrives the notion of synergy. If you owned Lyrics.ph and then owned musical instruments .ph say... you could convert aligned purchases from redirects and cross selling off the lyrics.ph.
Its a well known fact that the most successfull businesses keep to a specific industry and horizontally/vertically integrate other aligned businesses. |
